CAT Tales-3.5 (GoD- Gyaan on Demand)

Well as the title of this blog suggests this one was added as an afterthought to this whole series. Actually after going through all the previous posts (and some of the comments) I realized that this was becoming more of a factual report so I decided to add some details about my preparation for CAT. After all at the beginning of this tale I said that this was about how not to prepare for CAT ;) .

Well once the placement worries were behind me, I dedicated myself to CAT preparation (seriously). Well, there is no point in going into minute details. I will just give you the big picture.

Since I was living in the hostel at that point of time, it was pretty tough to mark a time frame during the day when I could study without any disturbance. Those of you who have stayed in a hostel (or are currently) would appreciate how many distractions a hostel has to offer. What with the never ending Counter Strike sessions, infinite number of movies to watch, those weekly episodes of Prison Break, Kyle, Avatar and God knows that not, and not to mention those endless BC sessions.

During the month of June and July I concentrated more on building up my basics (specially in Quants). You wont believe that until I started preparing for CAT I had no idea how compound interest is calculated. Before you wonder how that is possible, actually the thing is that calculating compound interest is taught in IX standard in CBSE and in X standard in ICSE. And I did my IX standard from an ICSE school and X from CBSE. Just a freak coincidence!!!

Anyways I also tried to work on building up my calculation abilities. Four years of using a scientific calculator certainly doesn’t help those.

I had always thought my English was good. But when I started reading The Hindu specially the editorials I realized how inadequate my vocabulary was!! The Hindu editorials are by far the most difficult articles you can find in day to day routine and it really doesn’t hurt to read them regularly.

So that was some gyaan on how not to clear the CAT.

In the next few posts we will have a look at my sailing in the AIMCATs.

Were the seas rough?? You bet!!!

Did the boat came close to sinking?? How could it not!!

Keep reading for more!!
