We at the Vellore center of TIME were paid a visit by Mr. Raghunath. Well I am not sure about his exact designation but he happens to be the second or third most senior person in the TIME Chennai hierarchy. Most of his family has studied from IIMs, his daughter, his sister's son and a couple of others I cant seem to recall at this moment. And he never forgets to mention it atleast a couple of times in each and every class.
To say that he is a genius would be an understatement. And he is caustic too. He can shred you to pieces using just his tongue. People just have two types of feelings for him. Either they respect him or they HATE him. Anyways I am not going to bore you with his qualities. What we are more interested in seeing what he had to say.
Well he took a couple of classes on Test strategies. If I were to repeat all that he talked about in that class it would seem trivial and common sense, but trust me when I say it was of huge help, to me atleast.
After listening to him I formulated my Test strategy and lets see what happened in the next few tests.
Next up AIMCAT 0815 on 22nd July 2007.
Here are my notes from this AIMCAT
" Did well to attempt the paper with proper strategy.
Can do well in quants
Need to improve attempts
Work on FIJ (Fact, Inference and Judgment) type in Verbal
Work on tables and ranges in DI
%ile-> 98.77"
At this point I was glad that my strategy was finally paying off.
Anyways the next few AIMCATs went like a dream, with me scoring decent scores in all of them. Here are the scores and diary entries for the next few AIMCATs.
AIMCAT0814 on 29th July 2007
" Again spent balanced amount of time in all 3 sections.
DI was tough, though could have attempted more still didn’t allow (sic) to get baffled by it
Did well in 1 mark questions of quants, could have done a couple more of 2 marks
Accuracy was good in English, but find it difficult to adjust to new type of questions
%ile -> 99.36"
AIMCAT 0813 on 5th August 2007
"Time management wasn’t an issue spent balanced amount of time in all 3 sections
Need to increase time in quant to ensure cutoff
English accuracy was pretty good
DI ->increase speed, try to reason faster
Quant -> study basics properly.
%ile -> 98.97"
AIMCAT0812 on 12th August 2007
" Was more of a speed test which favours me
spent 5-10 mins extra on English
Quants basics remain a problem
Accuracy in English went down
DI-> REASON FASTER
%ile-> (it was blank in the diary but I am guessing it was above 99)"
AIMCAT0811 on 19th August 2007
There are no diary entries for this AIMCAT and the next one .(I think this was probably because of the mid sem exams in college)
%ile- > 99.35
AIMCAT0810 on 26th August 2007
%ile-> 99.42
After this AIMCAT I went home for a week of R&R (i.e. Rest & Recreation).
Was it advisable to go home in the middle of CAT preparation ….We'll see in the next thread
(I am good at building suspense)
